Elfriede Jelinek's cubist novel (Gier, 2000), delves into the objectification inherent in patriarchal structures, the pervasivess of greed and the environmental degradation of moral decay in contemporary society. The novel is used as framework to introduce the works of the invited artists, operating at the periphery of consumer schizo-culture and investigating the commodification of the self and identity within larger media, spiritual, and social systems of exchange, power and control.
